Preparing For Life

Goals and Objectives
Each student has an initial consultation with one of the Principals to establish goals and objectives, plan a strategy for sitting examinations (particularly important for modular courses) and to ensure that the correct subjects are chosen. They are then assigned a personal tutor who will monitor their progress and give them any help and advice they may need throughout their time at Albemarle.

We have two primary objectives:

  • To empower students to obtain the best possible grades, through expert coaching in an atmosphere that encourages hard work, independence of thought and success, and
  • To match students to the degree course and university which best suits their needs.

Careers' Guidance
Albemarle's careers guidance programme was developed with the assistance of Capital Careers, the local government careers organisation, and the Department for Education and Skills. It provides an opportunity for students to explore their options in a systematic manner and they benefit from the following key elements:

  • Careers databases on CD-Rom and the Internet
  • Psychometric testing
  • Mock interviews recorded on video camera
  • Work experience programmes
  • Seminars conducted by visiting professionals
  • Student mentors

Finally, and an integral part of the college ethos, when a student leaves Albemarle to start a degree course at university, they remain very much a part of our extended family and are able to call on us at any time in the future for advice and assistance.
